Program Outline:

The Science Challenge will be held 9:00 AM to about Noon at the Corpus Christi Parish Center in Warwood, on Saturday March 1st, 2008. Prior to that date, each participating school will have its own competitions and activities to create their team of four students. The organization of the "in school" competitions, activities, and make-up of the team itself, is flexible and will be determined by each school. Participation is certainly NOT LIMITED to just science and math students, for example.

The Teams can be accompanied by their teacher, or appropriate parent volunteers.   Families are welcome to attend and cheer for their Teams.

The team from each school, after competition and activities at their own school, will bring with them to the competition:

1. One "Egg Survival Capsule"...  to be launched from the SMARTCenter precision Egg Acceleration device.

2. One "built ahead of competition"*paper airplane

*In the paper airplane competion, the team will also build ON SITE... an ADDITIONAL paper airplane for each team member.

For rules, instructions, and hints on how to construct each type of entry click on the items linked above.

The team of four students will then compete with teams from other schools at the Corpus Christi gym on Saturday, March 1st, 2008.

The team of four students will also compete in three on-site problem-solving activities.

The total points scored on all activities will determine the winning school.

If a school has more than 100 students in grades seven and eight, they may enter two teams of four. The second team of four students will compete only in the on-site problem solving activities. The two teams from each school with more than 100 students in grades seven and eight, must decide whose on-site entry for each of the three on-site activities will be entered in the competition.

Please contact the SMART-Center as soon as you can, but before February 26, 2008 to indicate the number of teams your school will enter.  (T-shirt and Pizza orders issue...)

The over-all winner will receive a traveling trophy that they can keep for one year. They have the opportunity to defend the trophy next year.

T-shirts will be awarded. Students and advisors will receive a pizza lunch at the end of competition.

There will be a "live broadcast" of the Science Challenge on Radio Science News from 11:00 - 12:00 on WVLY 1370 AM and streaming to the web, follow link at WVLY.net
